Hip osteoarthritis similar to knee osteoarthritis is a age related condition. Hip arthritis can also be caused due to a variety of other causes like post traumatic, avascular necrosis of the femoral head. At later stages , when pain is unbearable, Total hip replacement surgery is offered. It is a procedure which involves replacing the proximal femoral head and the acetabulum which form the hip joint with a metal prosthesis.
